Listed below are the known regulations for vehicles in SA.
Any vehicle built from 1971 onwards requires a working front demister.
Any vehicle built from 1972 onwards must have a working windscreen washer and full washer bottle.
You can have a max of four extra lights which must be mounted on the front of the vehicle and wired to operate with your high-beams.
Any additional lights including spot lights must be mounted on the front of the vehicle only.
You are not allowed to operate a vehicle on the roads that has Neon lights showing from under the vehicle.
You may only use these during hazardous weather conditions otherwise it is illegal to do so.
You can replace these with a flat mirror as long as it is the same size.
Nitrous oxide is not allow at all, This includes partial or disabled installations.
If the vehicle has one fitted from factory or your vehicle was manufactured after June 1988 then this must be working correctly.
Seatbelts must be replaced with new ones that are correctly install by an authorised installer.
Retreads can only be fitted to vehicles where the retreaded tyre casing has a load rating equal or greater than that specified on the tyre placard.
Passenger cars and derivatives manufactured before 1973 may be fitted with tyres which are of a different carcass construction provided the tyre carcass type across any axle is the same. If there is a mix of conventional and radial ply tyres the radials should be fitted on the rear axle. A passenger car or derivatives manufactured after 1972 must be fitted with tyres of the same carcass as specified by the vehicle manufacturer on the tyre placard. The tread pattern does not have to be the same on each tyre.
These are not required to be in your vehicle but they are advisable to have.
This must be secured with a battery box, if the battery is not a sealed type then the installation must be vented.
Unless it is a driving aid such as a GPS, it must either be out of the drivers sight or turns off when the vehicle is in motion and does not obscure the drivers view.
Turbo timers are not to be fitted to vehicles manufactured on or after 1 January 1972.
Alteration to an engine's turbo boost pressure is not acceptable. This is specified and set by the vehicle manufacturer to ensure compliance to the Australian Design Rules.
Aftermarket blow-off valve are not allowed as well as External waste gates on turbocharged engines.
May be fitted if they are secure, do not change the structural integrity of the vehicle and adequate provision is made for a complying number plate to be fitted in an approved position.
No less than 330mm in diameter, if the original was recessed or padded the replacement must as well. Comply with Australian Design Rule 10. Fitting an aftermarket steering wheel to a vehicle that has an airbag in the original steering wheel is not acceptable.
Cosmetic body modifications such as side skirts and front or rear spoilers are permitted without approval provided that they are fitted with regard to the safety of other road users. Must have clearance of 100mm. Rear spoilers must be within the original body profile of the vehicle.
The body of a vehicle can be raised by up to 50 mm by fitting metal spacer blocks between the vehicle chassis and body at their mounting points. It is important to note that a total lift of more than 50 mm requires prior approval in the form of a Statement of Requirements and a report from a chartered professional engineer
The windscreen of a motor vehicle must have a luminous transmittance of at least... 75% for a motor vehicle built after 1971, 70% for other motor vehicles.
Mudguards must be fitted to all road wheels and must cover the full width of the tyre when viewed from directly above.
