Download individual subspecialty sections: On the Main Menu screen, tap the Download button to download both the text and questions for a subspecialty. Please be patient as some downloads may take substantially longer than others, depending on the amount of content within the section.
Download all Subspecialty Sections at Once: On the Main Menu screen, tap the Download All button at the top of the screen. Note that some sections will take longer than others, so please be patient.
Access Text: Tap the Text tab at the top of the Main Menu screen. You can navigate through the content using the navigation area on the left of the screen or the topics listed at the top of the screen. External web links will open in the device web browser.
Access Key Points for Text: Tap the Key Points button in the top left corner of the screen.
Access a Figure: Tap the figure link to open the figure and caption. Use your device pinch/zoom features to zoom in or out on the image(s). Tap the Back button to return to the question or text.
Return to Main Menu: Tap the Home button in the navigation area on the left side of the screen.
Access Questions: Tap the Questions tab at the top of the Main Menu screen, select a subspecialty, and select the question you wish to answer.
Answer Questions: Tap the answer to make your selection. The answer, a Key Point, and an evidence-based critique will appear, explaining the reasons why each option is either correct or incorrect. Links to an external resource in the critique will open in the device web browser.
Navigate Questions within a Subspecialty: Tap the arrows at the top of the screen to navigate the questions sequentially.
Mark your Progress: On the Question Menu, the green and red squares next to the questions’ educational objectives indicate which questions you have answered correctly and incorrectly. A running score and color bar at the top of the screen will help you keep track of your overall progress in the subspecialty.
Filter Questions by Category: Tap the appropriate tab at the top of your Question Menu to view all questions, correctly answered questions, incorrectly answered questions, and unanswered questions.
Clear Answers: Tap the Clear Answers tab at the top of your screen to clear all questions within a subspecialty test. Note: Any questions answered at MKSAP 16 Online will populate these unanswered questions if you sync your app. (See “Sync with MKSAP 16 Online” tab in the Main Menu.)
Test Your Knowledge: To test your knowledge in specific areas of the text, tap the Test Your Knowledge button at the top of your screen and select from a menu of questions that appears. Return to the text by tapping the Back button in the Question screen.
View Related Text: To view text related to a question, tap the View Related Text button at the top your screen in the Question section. Return to the question by tapping the Back button in the top center screen.
Submit for CME, MOC (ABIM & Canada) and CPD (Australasia): When you have answered all of the questions of a subspecialty test and have scored at least 50% correct, tap the “Claim Credits” button to the right of the name of the subspecialty test in the Questions section of the Main Menu. Follow the instructions to synchronize your answers in the app with MKSAP 16 Online and then visit MKSAP 16 Online, where you can submit the tests for credits. Important: If synching results in a combined online score that is lower than the mandatory 50% online, you will need to (1) clear your answers online, (2) re-sync the app to send your answers to MKSAP 16 Online, then (3) return to MKSAP 16 Online to resubmit your test of 50% correct or better.
Hospitalist Content: All text and questions that are specific to the hospital setting include the universal blue “H” hospital icon.
Navigation Highlighting: The name of the topic or section that you are currently viewing will be highlighted in gold in the stack of navigation buttons to the left of the main screen.
Log-out Button: If you share your device with others, you may wish to log out of the app before you exit so that other users don’t overwrite your answers. You may log out using the Log Out button at the top of the Main Menu screen.
